The transformation of the Mazovian Public University in Płock into the Mazovian Academy is established by the bill passed by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland yesterday.
The Mazovian Public University in Płock is a thriving university that fully deserves to receive academic status – we read in the parliamentary justification of the bill.
According to the project, the Mazovian Academy in Płock is going to be established on October 1st, in the place of the Mazovian Public University in Płock. The minister responsible for higher education will oversee it. The property, including ownership and other property rights of the Mazovian Public University in Płock, will become the property of the academy from the date of its creation. The academy will also take over the rights and obligations of the Mazovian Public University in Płock from the date of its creation. On the day of the creation of the academy, employees of the Mazovian Public University will become employees of the academy, and students of the Mazovian Public University will become students of the academy.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Education and Science granted permission to create the psychology major. Quickly, the next day, the University launched recruitment for the major. Also on Wednesday, members of the Parliament’s Committee on Education, Science, and Youth positively reviewed the bill, and already in the evening of the same day, representatives discussed the report from the meeting of the said committee during the 58th plenary session of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland. In the parliamentary discussion, the project was supported by the majority of parliamentary clubs. Work on transforming the university was positively summarized by Wojciech Murdzek, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Education and Science: “Briefly, but I will join in congratulations. This is a reason for satisfaction and joy for the authorities of the university, all employees and students, but also counting in thousands of graduates. Three decisions show that the university has worked and deserves a path of positive change: the decision to grant a subsidy of 5 million 650 thousand PLN, the decision related to psychology, and the decision to grant scientific category B+ in the field of politics and administration science.”
The moment of truth was the vote, which took place on Thursday, July 7th. The majority of the Parliament voted for the creation of the Mazovian Academy. After the voting was over, the Marshal of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Elżbieta Witek, congratulated Prof. Maciej Słodki, the Rector of the University, who was present in the room.
Now the bill will go to the Senate, and after it is passed, it will be signed by the President of the Republic of Poland.
