To celebrate World Health Day, our University was visited by students from primary school.
World Health Day has been celebrated since 1950. Its purpose is to pay particular attention to the most important and neglected health issues. On this occasion, dr hab. n. med. Mariola Głowacka – professor of the University, Dean of the Health Faculty invited students of Primary School named after Wł. Broniewski in Bielsk. Youth, for whom studying at the second level of education is ahead of them, prove themselves with wide knowledge, maturity, and involvement during workshops.
Students saw the didactic potential of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and also took part in practical classes, which showed in what conditions our students enhance their abilities.
In the technical skills laboratory, they have seen dressing changes on bedsores and different types of injections. Reanimation in Covid-19 conditions really impressed our guests. In the high-fidelity laboratory in the nursing department, measurements of vital signs were made, the stomach tube was inserted and drugs were administered through an infusion pump. Girls were interested in bathing the newborn, and boys were fascinated by the realism of a rescued laboratory, where a patient after a motorcycle accident was being taken care of. In midwifery, there were simulated physiological delivery and participated delivery, and anthropometric measurement of a newborn was presented.
Students took part in a causerie with lecturers of the Faculty of Health Sciences, experts in their fields. Mgr Alexandra Sikorska-Iwańska told them the facts and myths about acne. Dr. Maciej Kornatowski took up the subject of depression among young people, especially during the last two years. Mgr Katarzyna Rzadkowolska’s presentation about sugar in the diet arouses interest and many questions. It turns out that products that traditionally are assumed to be ‘healthy’ have large amounts of sugar in them. Youth asked many questions, including what effect drinking coffee, tea, and energy drinks have on the health of a growing body.
