This is actually today, May 8, marks National Librarians and Libraries Day, which also kicks off Library Week. This year’s slogan is „My, Your, Our – Library!”
A book is one of the most beautiful creations of mankind’s material and spiritual culture. Its history, from the clay tablet to the e-book, is extremely interesting and shows over the millennia, not only the path of development of the book form, but also the path of development of technology and technology of individual civilizations and humanity as a whole.
At this point it is worth writing a few words, related to the library and the profession – librarian. A library is a cultural institution that collects, stores and provides access to library materials and information about library materials – its own and foreign. Libraries and their collections are a national asset and serve to preserve the national heritage – corridors filled with rows of books, semi-darkness and silence, interrupted occasionally by the rustling of pages… This unique atmosphere affects the fact that libraries can often seem like a sacred place, especially libraries located in historic buildings with historic book collections and interiors.
We extend our warmest wishes to all librarians.
„There is something special about books.
Books penetrate us to the depths (…).
And none comes alone,
but introduces the names of others
and one makes us hunger for another.”
