DIGITAL SOLUTION IN HEALTHCARE AND HOMECARE
As part of the project entitled „Digital Healthcare and Wellbeing: Application of eHealth and Assistive Technologies” in Kosovo, students of the Faculty of Health Sciences worked in separate teams with students from other countries on digital solutions in health care and home care of patients. Their task was to create an innovative project supporting the development of medicine and technology. The students of Collegium Medicum achieved great success, as each of them and their team took a place on the podium. This guarantees further cooperation with partners from the global market and project implementation!
FOR SEANIORS WITH DEMENTIA
1st place – „Memento” project, Kacper Wojtczak’s group (second-year student of Nursing). An application created for seniors with dementia and their families. A friendly interface with a personalized user plan is designed to promote ease of use of the application. After creating an account, each user can add a trusted family member to their profile who will be able to monitor the application. The application uses advanced technologies that are intended to enable, for example, control of the senior’s location and inform him how to return to his place of residence when he moves away uncontrollably. Medication reminders are also provided. In the application, seniors will also be able to recall important events in their lives, family members or their favorite music, and use games that help improve brain functions. The examples described above are a sample of the functions that the application is to have.
IN CARE OF DEAF PEOPLE
2nd place – „Alternative Augmentative Communication” project, Igor Kacprzak’s group (second-year student of Nursing). An application for communication between deaf people using artificial intelligence that recognizes sign language. The application was created for children and seniors who are unable to communicate, e.g. using writing. The application will prevent deaf children from being excluded from participating in educational activities related to the communication barrier. The application will be available for download on mobile devices with a built-in camera and touch screen enabling the display of sign signs and their translation into written/spoken languages.
SUPPORTING OF LONELY PEOPLE
3rd place – „MedBuddy” project, group of Anna Antczak and Emilia Jankowska (second-year student of Obstetrics). An interactive robot caregiver whose task is to accompany lonely people and support their medical needs. The robot’s tasks include encouraging an active social life by offering caregiver-friendly entertainment in the area of residence (e.g. sensory meetings, dance parties for seniors). At the base of the robot there is a medicine box, which uses sensors to support and monitor the daily supply of medicines – in the event of an incorrect weight, it issues verbal messages encouraging you to take, e.g. a morning dose of medicine. The robot looks like a parrot that generates heat like a real pet. You can stroke it, which will produce a gnashing of its beak that matches the cat’s purring. The parrot robot has artificial intelligence that can easily start a discussion with its guardian, share a recipe with the highest number of positive opinions or remind you about an upcoming visit to the doctor. MedBuddy also has many other features. This project will be combined with the „Memento” group, which will allow for the creation of integrated technology that fully supports older people, people with dementia and other individuals requiring constant medical care.
